(Moncton, November 28, 2022) – Three local peace makers were honoured on Thursday, November 24, 2022 by the YMCA of Greater Moncton for their efforts to build peace.

“Recognizing the sometimes thankless efforts of people in our community who celebrate diversity, inspire others and work to make our community a better place to live is important,” said the YMCA’s Jaime MacLellan during the event. “When we act for peace, we build stronger and healthier communities; we hope that sharing these stories will inspire others to act.”

The 2022 YMCA of Greater Moncton Peace Medals were presented to one individual and two groups:

–       Ashley MacDonald, YWCA Moncton

–       Sistema NB

–       Ukrainian Club of Moncton

Created in 1987, the YMCA Peace Medals have been granted annually to individuals or groups, who – without any special resources, status, wealth or position – demonstrate a commitment to the values of P-E-A-C-E (participation, empathy, advocacy, community, empowerment) through contributions within their local, national or global community.

Last Thursday’s event was emceed by Anne Porier Basque and hosted at Four Points by Sheraton, with catering by Sophia & Spritz.

Proceeds from this year’s Peace Medal Lunch go to toward the Moncton Y’s partnership with the YMCA of Risaralda, Colombia.
