Volunteer FAQ’s
We welcome and encourage YMCA members and non-members to get connected to their community through volunteering.
On the application form, you will be asked to identify three professional references, which can be employment- or volunteer-based – examples include coaches or teachers. No current YMCA employee or relative can be listed as a reference. References will be checked as part of the interview process.
At the YMCA of Greater Moncton, we are serious about our responsibility to protect the children and other vulnerable people who we serve. As part of this responsibility, we ask all staff and volunteers to provide us with a current Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Records Check. Volunteers will receive instructions on obtaining the appropriate check when they are accepted into a volunteer role.
You can open the door to volunteer and employment possibilities through our YMCA Aquatic, Group Fitness, YMCA Wellness Coach and Personal Trainer Certifications programs. There are several roles as a volunteer that also require you to be First Aid and CPR Certified. All staff and volunteers will be required to participant in YMCA Child Protection training and must adhere to the YMCA of Greater Moncton Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures. Please contact YMCA staff directly to see what certifications are required for specific volunteer roles.
With a focus on youth leadership, individuals can volunteer at the YMCA starting at the age of 13. Parental consent is required for all volunteers under the age of 18.
All volunteers will be asked to maintain a professional image at all times when volunteering at the YMCA. Depending on the role of the volunteer, a YMCA uniform is required and will be provided at no cost to the volunteer. All volunteers will be provided with a YMCA Volunteer ID which must be worn at all times during volunteer service.
