(Moncton, NB July 7, 2021) – The YCAN Moncton Staff Team has just launched their mural project – Slash the Stigma. Slash the Stigma is an interactive mural project comprising of three murals, two located at the YMCA Moncton North, 70 Twin Oaks Drive and one located at the YMCA of Greater Moncton, 30 War Veterans Ave.

Each mural aims to utilize the power of art to invoke conversation on wellness in mind, body, and spirit. On each mural you will find a QR Code that, when scanned, leads to the Slash the Stigma website where users can find resources on a variety of topics such as anxiety, mindfulness, physical wellness, 2SLGBTQIA+ resources, etc. all with the goal of providing people with the tools to live an overall healthy life.

Team member Kayla Cruickshank stated “As a team, we wanted our YCAN project to incorporate both our passions for art and community. We thought – what better way to showcase that than through murals.” The goal of the project is to educate the public on the importance of community resources. The website is a hub for the public to use to navigate tools to become the best version of themselves.

“I encourage people to read up on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and the Social Determinants of Health.  As a team of youth workers, we see the systemic barriers many face.  Understanding these frameworks helps us ensure we meet our clients where they are at to provide services that will work for the individual.”

Stop by both of the YMCA of Greater Moncton locations to view the murals and scan the QR Code to visit our website slashthestigma.ca
