Trivia challenge raises $24,000 in support of YMCA ReConnect
(Moncton, March 21, 2023) – New Country 96.9 ‘The Trivia Newton Johns’ took home the 2023 Battle of the Brains championship title Saturday.
The YMCA of Greater Moncton hosted the 20th edition of the Battle of the Brains trivia challenge in support of its ReConnect Street Intervention Program, which helps individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The energy in the room was electric with 27 teams competing for bragging rights and the coveted, wrestling-style championship belt. The event was the most successful since it began in 2002, raising $24,000 in support of ReConnect.
Trevor Goodwin, Senior Director of Outreach at the YMCA of Greater Moncton shared an important message with those in attendance “The face of homelessness is someone’s brother, son, daughter, sister or friend. Often they are alone and do not have a safety net to catch them. No matter what age, stage of life – the YMCA is here to help” says Trevor.
During the 10 rounds of trivia, teams collectively answered questions on a wide range of topics, from local lore to science. Teams were comprised of employees from area businesses and organizations, as well as groups of friends.
“It was an exciting finish, with the winners really showing what they were made of in the final round,” says event organizer Jaime MacLellan. “Even more exciting was the incredible show of support and the spirit of generosity. Special thanks to every one of our teams, volunteers, and sponsors who made the 20th edition a success.”
The 2023 Battle of the Brains champions ‘The Trivia Newton Johns’ from New Country 96.9 consisted of Mary Sullivan, Tyler Boutillier, Rik Sullivan, Susan McClary, Mike Strachan, and Derek Davis. The team unseated the previous 3x champs, ‘The Air Trivia Controllers’ from Nav Canada.
