Do I have to be a member to volunteer?
We welcome and encourage YMCA members and non-members to get connected to their community through volunteering.
Do I need references?
On the application form, you will be asked to identify three professional references, which can be employment- or volunteer-based – examples include coaches or teachers. No current YMCA employee or relative can be listed as a reference. References will be checked as part of the interview process.
What screening is required to be a volunteer?
At the YMCA of Greater Moncton, we are serious about our responsibility to protect the children and other vulnerable people who we serve. As part of this responsibility, we ask all staff and volunteers to provide us with a current Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Records Check. Volunteers will receive instructions on obtaining the appropriate check when they are accepted into a volunteer role.
What types of certifications are required to be a volunteer?
You can open the door to volunteer and employment possibilities through our YMCA Aquatic, Group Fitness, YMCA Wellness Coach and Personal Trainer Certifications programs. There are several roles as a volunteer that also require you to be First Aid and CPR Certified. Please contact YMCA staff directly to see what certifications are required for specific volunteer roles.
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
With a focus on youth leadership, individuals can volunteer at the YMCA starting at the age of 13. Parental consent isrequired for all volunteers under the age of 18.
Is there a dress code for volunteering?
All volunteers will be asked to maintain a professional image at all times when volunteering at the YMCA. Depending on the role of the volunteer, a YMCA uniform is required and will be provided at no cost to the volunteer. All volunteers will be provided with a YMCA Volunteer ID which must be worn at all times during volunteer service.
