The YMCA of Greater Moncton will close both of their fitness facilities as of January 6, 2021 based on the decision of the province of New Brunswick to revert the entire province to the Orange Alert Level due to the recent increase of positive COVID-19 cases.  We will remain closed until we return to the Yellow Alert Level

YMCA and City of Moncton bringing FREE fun back to playgrounds this summer

(Moncton, NB – June 26, 2019) For the fourth consecutive summer, the YMCA of Greater Moncton and the City of Moncton are teaming up to bring free fun to kids at local playgrounds.

“Our summer playground program – Mobile Fun – has grown to reach more than 4,000 children each summer at 24 municipal parks,” says Jaime MacLellan, Senior Director, Education, Youth Leadership and Global Initiatives at the YMCA of Greater Moncton. “We’re looking forward to presenting another summer of free fun in conjunction with the City of Moncton.”

From July 2 to August 23, the two Mobile Fun teams will stop at three playgrounds daily. Their visits will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

“Kids have fun experiences that get them moving and using their imagination all summer long at city playgrounds,” says MacLellan. “It’s a popular program among kids and parents alike!”

As with last summer, Mobile Fun playground activities will not be themed in 2019, she notes.

“We’re continuing to encourage unstructured outdoor play, which has been shown to be important to a healthy physical, mental, and emotional state of well-being,” says MacLellan. “Our Mobile Fun teams will be on hand to provide supervision while children have fun doing things at their own pace.”

The Mobile Fun teams will be comprised of YMCA staff with Standard First Aid and CPR training, Child Protection Training, and background and record checks, ensuring children receive the highest level of care, she says. Mobile Fun activities will be open to all regardless of age or ability. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to participate with children.

The Mobile Fun program will run rain or shine. During extreme heat or thunder, efforts will be made to relocate activities, says MacLellan.
