(Moncton, January 21, 2019) – Registration is now open for the YMCA of Greater Moncton’s 18th annual Battle of the Brains trivia event in support of another battle – homelessness.

“Battle of the Brains is a really fun evening of trivia and laughs with all proceeds going to the Y’s ReConnect Street Intervention Program, which provides outreach to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of being homeless,” says ReConnect Director Lisa Ryan. “Homelessness is a significant social issue in our community. Battle of the Brains is one way we can come together to make a difference.”

The YMCA’s 18th annual Battle of the Brains trivia challenge takes place at the YMCA, 30 War Veterans Ave., at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23. Teams of four to six will vie for the trivia championship, which includes a sought-after, wrestling-style championship belt. Scotty Horsman of New Country 96.9 FM will again host this year’s event.

During the friendly competition, teams collectively answer questions – audio and visual – on a range of topics. Twenty teams, many sporting costumes to reflect their team names, took part in the 2018 edition of Battle of the Brains. The Resurgonauts, a team from the City of Moncton’s Resurgo Place, won top spot.

Each Battle of the Brains team is required to pay a registration fee of $600. Registration forms are available at the Y’s Membership Desk or on the YMCA of Greater Moncton website (see ‘Events’ at top of homepage).

The Y’s ReConnect Street Intervention Program has been in existence since 2001. ReConnect staff help those who are homeless or at-risk with knowledge of available resources and support in accessing those resources.

Event sponsors for the 2018 Battle of the Brains include New Country 96.9 FM, C103, Pepsi and Inspiration Design.
