The YMCA of Greater Moncton will close both of their fitness facilities as of January 6, 2021 based on the decision of the province of New Brunswick to revert the entire province to the Orange Alert Level due to the recent increase of positive COVID-19 cases.  We will remain closed until we return to the Yellow Alert Level

(Moncton, Feb. 27, 2020) – Limited space for teams is still available for the YMCA of Greater Moncton’s 19th annual Battle of the Brains trivia challenge to be held on  Saturday, March 14 at 7 p.m.

“Registrations have been steady but there’s still time to get your team signed up!” says the Y’s Jeff MacNeil, Director of Fundraising for the event. “It’s a fun night of trivia and laughs, with all proceeds going to our ReConnect Street Intervention Program. This fundraiser really helps us help individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness. We’d love to fill the last few team slots for Battle of the Brains so get your entries in today!”

During the Battle of the Brains competition – held in the Y’s main gym – teams of 4 to 6 players collectively answer 10 rounds of trivia, consisting of 10 questions per round. Each question is assigned a certain number of points. A panel of judges scores each round and the team with the most points at the end of the night is crowned Battle of the Brains champions. Along with bragging rights for the subsequent year, the winners also receive a wrestling-style championship belt.

Last year, 23 teams took part in the trivia event with $15,000 raised for ReConnect. The Air Trivia Controllers – a team from Nav Canada – won top spot in 2019. (The reigning champions will be back to defend their title.)

Scotty Horsman of New Country 96.9 FM will again host this year’s Battle of the Brains. Event sponsors include New Country 96.9 FM, C103, Pepsi, Sobeys, Bennic and Inspiration Design.

Team registration forms are available at the Y’s Membership Desk or on the YMCA of Greater Moncton website. Each Battle of the Brains team is required to pay a registration fee of $600 or take advantage of the corporate “2 FER”: two teams for $1000 and $500 for each additional team. The registration deadline is Friday, March 13.

Teams are encouraged to dress up for the event and vie for the 'Rock Star Award' sponsored by Pepsi, awarded to the team with best costumes and team spirit.
