YMCA swim lessons encourage children and adults to learn proper swimming technique and understand the importance of water safety. Classes emphasize having fun while learning from qualified instructors.

Swimming Lesson Policies

  • Must have a membership to register for swim lessons.
  • Members may register or make a lesson change at any time.
  • If a child misses three lessons in a row for reasons other than documented illness, the space will be forfeited.
  • If a membership is on hold, the child will be removed from the lessons.
  • Evaluations are done approximately every 6 - 8 weeks.
  • Little Swimmer disposable swim pants MUST be worn for all children who need to wear diapers.
  • Bathing caps are mandatory at the YMCA. For your convenience they can be purchased at our Membership Services Desk.

Surfers

(Children must have passed Divers. Child must be comfortable in the main pool without a lifejacket or belt. Must be able to swim ½ length of pool.) In this level, children will learn ice safety education, standing/kneeling dives, surface support, front and back somersaults, and front and back swim. Children will spend most of this class in the main pool.

Splashers

Safety education for adults, attempt assisted front and back floats, front and back tow with buoyant aid, bubble blowing and learning to get their face wet. These skills will be taught through songs, games and play.

Bubblers

Safety Education for Adults & Child, Variety of Entering and exiting the water, Assisted Front and Back floats, surface support, kicking, submersion, and object retrieval. Skills will be taught through songs, games and play.

Dippers

Private Swim Lessons

For Adults and Children 6 years old and over. Private swim lessons are excellent for anyone who would be more comfortable with one-on-one training. Four half-classes take place over a four-week period, with flexibility for holidays, sickness, etc. Payment for the private lessons must be made prior to the first lesson. Please contact the Aquatic Director for booking available dates and times.
