Ready for oodles of free family fun? Don’t miss the YMCA of Greater Moncton’s 9th annual Healthy Kids Day open house Saturday, June 15th.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15th, there will be free activities indoors and outdoors as well as a free barbeque at the YMCA, 30 War Veterans Ave, says one of the event organizers, April Morton, VP of Childcare Services for the local Y. (The event takes place rain or shine.)

“YMCA Healthy Kids Day gives families the opportunity to drop by their local YMCA for free to discover how simple and fun healthy living can be,” says Morton. “We'll have community partners supporting us with different stations and awesome interactive fun. Last year, over 1,000 people attended and we anticipate the same this year. Bring your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews – the whole clan – for some terrific family fun!”

When children arrive at Healthy Kids Day and register, they will receive a map of various stations they can visit as well as a ‘passport’ to have stamped. When the passport is complete, they can enter a draw for prizes, says Morton. The first 500 children to register will receive a YMCA tote bag. Other giveaways will take place throughout the event.

“We know the majority of children and youth in Canada don’t have adequate access to opportunities for active recreation and healthy living,” says Morton. “We hope Healthy Kids Day encourages children and families to get more active and choose a healthier lifestyle.

While Healthy Kids Day runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Y will be open to the public free of charge all day, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Non-members are welcome to try group fitness classes, use fitness equipment in the FItness Centre, make use of the Y’s three pools and tour the facility. A government-issued photo ID is required for non-members.
